A representative from the Lancashire Association of Local councils, who is non-party political also addressed the meeting along with local Aston and Bryn UKIP members, Alan Freeman and Stephen Jones on their local campaign for Ashton and Bryn to have their own town council.

Steven Woolfe commented “There was a real buzz in the room. These local residents are passionate about their neighborhood and they feel neglected by Wigan borough council. It was evident that they want more localism and local accountability. They want decisions on local issues to be bought back to the local people, where they rightly belong. Only UKIP is for devolving centralised power back to the local people and giving local referendums on important local issues.”

UKIP Aston representative, Alan Freeman commented “The UKIP Wigan branch have been campaigning for a local town council in Ashton for a long time and we have overcome some big hurdles, but no doubt there will be some stumbling blocks which we will face. That will not deter us and we will not give up until Ashton and Bryn gets a town council.”

UKIP Bryn representative, Stephen Jones commented “This is not solely a UKIP campaign. Across the whole town, the majority of people in Ashton and Bryn would like their own town council.”
