Gibraltar is British

A solution to prevent Gibraltar being used as a pawn in Brexit talks – UKIP Leader Paul Nuttall • European Parliament, Strasbourg, 05 April 2017 • Paul Nuttall MEP, UKIP Leader (UK Independence Party, North West), Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy (EFDD) group – @paulnuttallukip • Debate: Negotiations with the United Kingdom following its notification that it intends to withdraw from the European Union [2017/2593(RSP)]     TRANSCRIPT: “Thank you, I think what we have witnessed over the past week has been the unedifying spectacle of posturing and veiled threats. From the ludicrous suggestion that we will be saddled with a 50 billion pounds divorce bill – although we are a net contributor to the EU budget – to the claim that no trade deal will be negotiated until the end of the Article 50 process. This I guarantee would cause immense damage to the economies of the EU and would result in putting many of your citizens out of work. It is we call in the UK cutting off your nose to spite your face. However, the most offensive...

Support the armed forces

Posted by on Apr 17, 2017

Dear Editor, Now that Article 50 has been triggered and we are on course to leave the EU there are many important issues that need resolving. There are further cuts being planned, cuts that will affect most of us and they need immediate attention from the government. One in particular is defence, which should be the first priority of any government. After years of savage cuts under Cameron’s coalition, our armed services suffered severely, while it became set in law that we must give 0.7% of our GDP away in overseas aid, which now equates to more than £13.5 billion each year and continues to grow as our economy grows. Yet, there is speculation that more cuts are in the pipeline for our armed services, in particular for the Royal Marines with their capability reduced and the Royal Navy and their flagship HMS Ocean, which may be sold next year, as well as an exodus from both the army and RAF personnel for a variety of reasons including poor accommodation. The world becomes more dangerous by the minute and with the...

Tory NIC U-Turn

Tory NIC U-Turn

Mar 15, 2017

Tory disarray on National Insurance shows UKIP is the party for strivers Published UKIP leader, Paul Nuttall MEP has welcomed the Chancellor’s U-Turn over applying National Insurance to the self employed and sole traders. “It is good that the Chancellor is listening, at least to us in UKIP, some of his own backbenchers and much of the media. But his basic point that this was a breach of a manifesto commitment is hardly the issue. The point is that they thought they could get away with hitting the self employed. “What is clear from his statement is that both he and the Prime Minister were perfectly happy to hammer a section of society who the Tories feel are their expendable electoral infantry. That Jeremy Corbyn failed to mention the NIC raid in his budget response, and then hardly mentioned it after the Chancellor’s U-Turn just shows how this group of men and women, 2.84 million of them, the engine room of our economy and the key driving force behind the country’s growth and prosperity, are ignored and punished for their efforts. “It is increasingly clear that the party of the drivers, the strivers and the entrepreneurs is...

EU fiddling whilst the Treaty of Rome burns – UKIP Leader Paul Nuttall MEP Press Release • Speaking today in the Strasbourg European Parliament plenary debate on the conclusions of the European Council meeting, UKIP Leader Paul Nuttall MEP urged caution in the midst of the Treaty of Rome celebrations and stressed that despite the motives behind the origins of the European Union being noble, it has evolved into a ‘political monster’ which wants to destroy the nation state.   Paul Nuttall MEP stated: “What began as a noble economic plan has evolved into a political monster, egged on by successive eurocrats who are hungry for ever more power and determined to destroy the nation state and what continues to amaze me is that you never learn. You talk about an existential crisis but you say what is needed is even more EU, you are fiddling whilst the Treaty of Rome burns.”  The UKIP leader also addressed the issue of Turkey by saying, “Turkey under Erdogan is moving towards a theocracy akin to the Middle East, it has nothing in common with the democracies of Europe and therefore Turkey should never ever should be allowed to join the European Union.” Transcript: Thank you, I’d like to start by agreeing actually with virtually every other President in this chamber, everyone seems to be a President, on the issue of Turkey. Turkey under Erdogan is moving towards a theocracy akin to the Middle East, it has nothing in common with the democracies of Europe and therefore Turkey should never ever should be allowed to join the European Union. I’m also going to agree with Frau Merkel for the first time actually when she spoke about a two speed Europe coming down the line, it’s true. There is going to be a two speed Europe; there’s going to be Britain with Brexit in the fast lane and all you guys going in reverse. But I am going to speak quickly about the Treaty of Rome. Even though Britain wasn’t an original signatory it would be churlish of me not to accept that it was a noble and grand plan put together by men and women who witnessed...

Europhiles in new row

Europhiles in new row

Mar 15, 2017

March 14, 2017 PRESS RELEASE DESPERATE EUROPHILES LOSE ARGUMENT SO WANT TO CUT EUROSCEPTIC FINANCE A move to stop Eurosceptic parties getting EU funding shows just how desperate Europhiles have become, said UKIP leader Paul Nuttall today. Manfred Weber, leader of the European People’s Party, said at a press conference that he is going to push for a rule change in the European Parliament to stop Eurosceptic parties getting funding. Mr Weber has suggested this before but has now asked asked Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, to come up with legislation to enforce it. He said: “You can have parties allowed, not banned, but do you necessarily have to fund them from the EU purse? Hence I would say no money for anti-European parties.”   Mr Nuttall, MEP for the North West of England, responded, “This little outburst shows how desperate Europhiles really are . “There is no such thing as EU money, it’s taxpayers’ money, and Eurosceptic parties have a mandate from their voters who pay tax. “Raging Europhiles such as Weber have lost the argument and popular support, and in their despair now wish to utilise finance as a weapon to hamper patriotic parties. “If the EU wishes to fund political parties it should depend on mandate and not on message, otherwise it’s a vast curtailment of freedom of speech. “It’s outrageous that the EU wishes to spend over €30 million on the 2019 European Elections, and it shows they wish to use finance as a weapon buy media attention and support.” ends For info – STRASBOURG, MARCH 14 – No EU funds to anti-EU parties: the EPP Group in the European Parliament calls for new rules on political party financing. “We can not accept – stated by the leader Manfred Weber – that the EU systematically finance the enemies of the European Union, parties who carry out harmful activities for the future of the EU. It makes no sense to fund those who want to be our end.” The idea is still “to be perfected,” says Weber. “We should create structures,” he says. Among the hypotheses, “that parties should adhere in advance the principles of the Lisbon Treaty.”...

Strong borders a must

Strong borders a must

Mar 14, 2017

March 14, 2017  PRESS RELEASE BRITAIN MUST HAVE STRONG BORDERS, SAYS MEP A report by Europol showing how criminal gangs have made billions from people smuggling demonstrates the need for Britain to have strong borders, said UKIP leader Paul Nuttall.  “Post Brexit it is vital that we have tough border controls and that means meaningful investment in our border agency. We will remain a popular destination even after we extricate ourselves from the EU. “These figures from Europol showing that migrant smuggling in 2015 earned crime bosses as much as £4.9 billion, making it one of the most profitable activities for organised crime in the EU,  illustrate why the lack of internal borders is a disaster. “Rob Wainwright, head of Europol, warned last month that Brexit could leave the UK more vulnerable to terrorism and organised crime. However I am quite sure that co-operation will continue with other countries and organisations after we leave, including Europol ” said Mr Nuttall,  MEP for the North West of England. “Those against Brexit do not miss any opportunity to claim it’s all a terrible mistake and act as doom merchants. But as that day gets nearer my long held belief that it was the right decision gets reinforced and any costs we incur will be more than compensated by the £350 million a week we will no longer have to hand over to the EU,” he said....

Self-employed under attack

Self-employed under attack

Mar 10, 2017

Dear Editor, For a party supposedly of “wealth creation”, it is difficult to see how they could present their Spring Budget that has been described by some as “boring” yet will have detrimental effects to some 2.45 million self-employed people, entrepreneurs, who represent the future of the UK. The Chancellor has increased National Insurance Contributions (NIC) to the self-employed by 2% , which will add around £1,000 to their tax bills. These are the very people that we should be encouraging rather than discouraging as we prepare to leave the EU. He said that it was fair, as the self-employed enjoyed the same service as those who are employed, but he did not mention their risks, responsibilities as well as they do not get holiday or sick pay. While for man who appears to lack any humour, his jokes, at the expense of Labour were quite good, but his budget could have been delivered by Labour’s Gordon Brown. Chancellor Philip Hammond has clearly broken a 2015 election promise from David Cameron, that if elected a Tory Government would not increase Income Tax, NIC or VAT, as a result the Conservatives won, while 22 months on millions who voted for them are about to lose out.  While they are happy to hand out over £13 billion every year (and set to rise as the economy grows) in overseas aid, in many cases to corrupt regimes, this Tory Government appear determined to punish its entrepreneurs. How can they be trusted on anything ?  Yours sincerely Philip Griffiths, North West President,...

Holding establishment to account

Holding establishment to account

Feb 26, 2017

Dear Editor, In last June`s referendum 17.4 million of us voted to leave the EU in order to take back control of our country, including immigration, controlling our borders and making our own laws, which for the last forty four years our politicians had outsourced to the EU. The Brexiteers won and when Teresa May became PM, she made it very clear that “Brexit means Brexit” respecting the will of the people and despite the constant barracking from the Remainers. However,  David Davis, the EU Exit Secretary on a visit to Estonia stated that we we were not  going to “suddenly shut the door” on foreign workers jobs when we leave the bloc, adding that it would take several years before British-born workers were ready to take over the jobs that are currently done by migrants. Whilst nobody expects that migrants should be expelled, we expect that we control the numbers coming in, that’s what we voted for and considering Mr Davis was a leading Brexiteer his statement is quite extraordinary.  While we won the referendum battle itself we now we have to win the war and that means holding the political establishment to account to ensure that we get exactly what we voted for. Yours sincerely Philip Griffiths, North West President,...

Protect Vauxhall jobs

Protect Vauxhall jobs

Feb 19, 2017

PRESS RELEASE February 18, 2017 THERESA MAY MUST PROTECT VAUXHALL JOBS – SAYS UKIP UKIP leader Paul Nuttall has insisted that Theresa May protects jobs at the Vauxhall plants. The Prime Minister is to meet the head of France’s Peugeot Group which has plans to takeover Vauxhall. “This take-over must not be allowed to go ahead if it means any job losses at all at Ellesmere Port and Luton,” said Mr Nuttall, North West MEP. “And, of course, it is not just jobs at the actual factories that are in potential jeopardy but the thousands involved in its retail and components chain. “I am glad that our government are making the right moves but they have to be meaningful and Theresa May must fight for the future of our workers. “And it is all the more reason for Brexit to go ahead without delays so that any uncertainties are eradicated,” said Mr Nuttall....
