Leave our appliances alone

Leave our appliances alone

More EU hot air over less hot air has been condemned by UKIP MEP Paul Nuttall.

“The lunatics running the asylum are now contemplating banning high wattage household devices such as hair dryers, kettles and smartphones.

“Not content with the ridiculous prohibition on vacuum cleaners over 1,600 watts from Monday the Brussels bureaucrats have their eyes set on about 30 other electrical items.

“This, like their other stupid ban on incandescent light bulbs, is all to meet their self-imposed target of energy savings of 30 per cent across the EU by 2030 to tackle climate change.

“It’s like King Canute hopelessly trying to hold back the tide, they should make themselves a nice cup of tea with their high power kettles and leave sensible people to get on with their sensible lives,” said Mr Nuttall, UKIP deputy leader.

A draft study ordered by the European Commission has identified up to 30 electrical appliances including wifi routers, lawn mowers, smart phones and kettles that could be covered by the EU’s Ecodesign directive outlawing high-wattage devices.

“It’s not just people in their own homes who will be affected but businesses such as hairdressers who use powerful hairdryers to get customers’ hair dried as quickly as possible for their mutual benefit,” said Mr Nuttall, North West Euro-MP.

“There really is no area of our lives into which these nannying Eurocrats won’t stick their nose. They have set an impossible energy reduction target which is pointless since other countries such as China and India are building hundreds of coal fired power plants and climate change is not man-made anyway.

“They should butt out of our lives and we should escape their rules and regulations by leaving the EU,” he added.

  1. We had better keep the secret to ourselves. I will say this only once. These idiots do not know that they are fuelling anti EU sentiment Please do not tell them.

  2. Wouldnt it be easier to just build more power stations?

  3. I’m not one to advocate the tactics of certain Irish Republicans, but one in particular there is no getting away from and the words he was using then are just as applicable to both Irishmen & women today as they are to British men & women.Read More……

First they take our light bulbs, now they are dictating the voltage of our appliances. Quite frankly the UK people will only take so much until they reach a tipping point.

  5. If they ban kettles that ‘Boil’ water at 100c, so my tea is no longer hot enough, that is a serious declaration of something in my part of the World. Don’t mess with the traditional British Cup of TEA, ever, or we will be seeing another sort of Tea Party.
