Cameron Restrictions Under Fire

November 27, 2013

North West MEP Paul Nuttall has pointed out that David Cameron’s proposed restrictions on EU migrants “don’t amount to a hill of beans.”

“Migrants will still be entitled to out of work benefits after just three months and frankly these proposals just aren’t nearly good enough. And this at a time when we have such high youth unemployment.

“The reality is someone can come here from Romania or Bulgaria on January 1 and within 12 weeks be entitled to unemployment benefits,” said Mr Nuttall, UKIP deputy leader.

“We face a potential deluge of unskilled people from those countries and the measures Cameron has come up with don’t amount to a hill of beans. The public are not as stupid as he seems to think and it just won’t do.

“And the PM’s suggestion that the free movement of people across the EU could not be unqualified and he would seek more discretion over migration policy is also kidology.

“As for the suggestion that the government will deport homeless migrants, that seems highly unlikely considering that currently fewer than one in sixty tip-offs on migrants who are here illegally lead to deportation.

“Only UKIP’s stance of leaving the EU, restoring full border controls and choosing who enters the UK before they get here is the sensible way forward,” he added.
