Call to cut Teaching Union bosses pay

Teaching union bosses should have their six-figure salaries cut – says UKIP’s Education spokesman and deputy leader, Paul Nuttall.

The comments come the day it is revealed the head of the NUT receives a massive £160,000 a year in pay and perks.

Christine Blower has headed the NUT since 2008 and has presided over five national teachers’ strikes as well as numerous regional strikes and programmes of work-to-rule.

She has led more strikes than at any time since Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister.

North West MEP Mr Nuttall said: “While being paid more than £13,000 a month, this union boss can have no understanding of how difficult and expensive it can be for parents to make arrangements for child care when she calls a strike.

“I’m sure many teachers will be outraged to hear how much she earns, considering it’s six times higher than a new teacher, and she receives over £40,000 in pension contributions alone.

“How can she say she understands their needs and can represent them, when there is such a huge difference in income?”

Three other teaching unions pay their chiefs in excess of £140,000 a year, with one receiving a pay rise of 5% while teaching staff were awarded just 1%.

Mr Nuttall added: “It is ludicrous that these bosses make no contribution to improving our children’s education, and nothing to improve the quality of teaching yet earn nearly three times more than the average primary school head, and twice as much as a secondary school head teacher.”

  1. I’ll vote for that!!

  2. Another union fat cat boss, so proud of her strikes even though around 20% of the members voted for action. The law should be changed to 50% of members vote. I dropped out of the FBU because of cretins like her.

  3. I am in favour in principle of unions to represent workers but another thing which I think should happen is that union representatives should be paid out of union contributions.Read More……

  4. I ASK WHY DO A UNION ORGINISATION HAVE PEOPLE AT THE TOP ON THAT AMOUNT IF THEY NEED EXPERIENCED ADVICE YOU BUY IN THE SERVICE AS AND WHEN NEEDED,,,,YOU DO NOT NEED THE TOP ONE THAT MUCH MONEY………….Read More……

  5. When I see the way many of our young people are leaving school semi-literate/numerate (usually in Labour dominated areas) because it suits them to keep the masses uneducated, and on benefits – so they will keep voting Labour?? They are unlikely to aspire to lift themselves out of poverty, and this continues with each subsequent generation. Look no further that Diane Abbott one of Labour’s hard left wing, banged on for years about the wonders of Comprehensive Education giving EVERY child the best chances? So why did she then send her own son to a fee paying Public School. It’s Labour’s oldest rule……don’t do as I do, do as I say! Don’t believe me? Nearly every member of Labours shadow cabinate have all gone to Public Schools!
