Government Pub plan welcomed

Government Pub plan welcomed

Mar 30, 2016

Dear Editor, Cheers to the government for rooting around in their coffers and coming up with £3.2 million to help communities take control of their local pub. The plan involves a package of business development support, advice and loan and grant funding to help establish community-owned pubs. I’m all in favour of such pubs, particularly with 29 hostelries still closing each week in this country. But hang on a minute, wouldn’t it have been a much better plan for the government to have intervened to stop closures in the first place? That would, of course, mean them taking on the pub companies and the power of the industry’s lobbyists is an open secret.   They would rather keep taking the income from duties and taxes, albeit that diminishing with the vanishing outlets, than take positive steps to save the livelihood of publicans and their staff, including having a level playing field with supermarket pricing and cutting duty. This two year support programme shows that the social importance of the village pub is finally recognised by the government but it should never have been allowed to come to this. I’ll raise a glass but when the froth of this gimmick has diminished I suspect I’ll be left with a bitter taste. Yours faithfully Paul Nuttall MEP  http://www.paulnuttallmep.com/ Read...

Trendy Teachers oppose British values

Trendy Teachers oppose British values

Children should not be used as political pawns by left wing teachers intent on indoctrination Published Mar 29, 2016 Children should not be used as political pawns by left wing teachers intent on indoctrination, says UKIP Deputy Leader Paul Nuttall MEP. His comments come in the wake of the NUT annual conference which on Sunday passed a motion to campaign to scrap the promotion of ‘fundamental British values’. Paul Nuttall MEP, UKIP’s Deputy Leader, said, “Last time I checked this is still Britain and what else should be promoted but British values? They inherently include tolerance of other faiths and lifestyles, that is a fundamental value of our traditional society. “To say the term is ‘demeaning’ as the NUT do, demonstrates the left wing bias of that union and their selfish drive to use pupils as political pawns. “These are young impressionable minds they are playing with who should be taught what being British means above ideological views about international human rights. “We are an island race and migrants have always settled here and been happily assimilated into our communities. And we have a fine record on taking in refugees from all over the world facing persecution and death. “But the situation is now out of control and we cannot and must not allow uncontrolled immigration and nor should our youngsters be taught that putting the people living in this country first makes us racist. It does not. “Campaigning to welcome even more migrants into this country when our schools, hospitals, housing and general infrastructure is already failing to cope is irresponsible and risking creating a divided society with future generations the...

Terror in Brussels

Terror in Brussels

Mar 23, 2016

Dear Editor, The latest terrorist attacks, this time targeting Brussels must come as little surprise. Isil warned last year that they would use the migrant crisis engulfing the European Union, to infiltrate the refugees with their jihadists to wreak havoc with terrorist attacks. The situation has been ongoing since early last year and still nothing constructive has happened to resolve it, other than a shambolic “deal” with Turkey which will lead to allowing early membership of the EU of its 77million citizens. This will just add to the problems already being faced by the security services of member states, as the terrorists are now targeting the transport systems to cause a “lock-down” situations, as in Brussels, inflicting as many casualties and as much disruption as possible. What should be happening is a security clampdown on all migrants to establish their credentials as well as scrutinising members of the local ethnic communities and ensuring all are eligible to remain and those who are not, deported or in the case of terrorists, justice must take its course. Thanks to the human rights brigade, the terrorist groups appear to be gaining ground and unless firm action is taken these atrocities, along with the death and destruction will continue. David Cameron stated that we will be stronger and our streets safer by remaining in the EU. What has happened in Paris and now Brussels as well as the events in Germany on New Year’s Eve tell a completely different story. Only leaving the EU can start to make us stronger and once again safer, we will then be in control of our own security matters and doing what is best for Britain and the British people. Vote for Brexit. Yours sincerely Philip Griffiths, North West...

March 22, 2016  PAUL NUTTALL QUOTES RE BRUSSELS AIRPORT BOMBING UKIP Deputy Leader Paul Nuttall spoke of his outrage over the explosions at Brussels Zaventem airport. “This is an appalling attack, killing and maiming innocent people just going about their business. My heart goes out to the victims and their families and I hope that those involved, directly and indirectly, in causing this horrendous incident are quickly brought to justice. “These incidents highlight the dangerous times in which we live but we must not be cowed down by these attacks on our society,” said Mr Nuttall, North West MEP speaking from the European Parliament building in Brussels. ends   Follow Paul on...

EU Tampon Tax slammed

EU Tampon Tax slammed

Mar 21, 2016

Tampon tax: Outside the EU we could set our own VAT rules and act immediately   UKIP Press Release • UKIP MEP Louise Bours said:   “Outside the EU we could set our own VAT rules and act immediately rather than beg for EU concessions that could take years to implement. David Cameron having to plead for change just shows how weak and dependent he is on the EU.  Let’s vote to get out in June and control our own affairs. “Under the current EU VAT rules (VAT directive) it is impossible to reduce an item to zero rate. No matter what was agreed in principle at the EU Council- that is the current EU law. These proposed changes on VAT rules will have to be proposed by the Commission, voted on by the European Parliament and agreed on by the Council. It could potentially take years. “If we were outside the EU we could have decided to scrap the tampon tax years ago, instead we will now have to wait for the EU bureaucracy and legislative process to take its course, which could take years. It is completely outrageous the undemocratic EU gets to decide and set our tax rates in such a way.” Some Basic Info (see document from the European Parliament Research Service on the request of UKIP Leader Nigel Farage MEP). Under the current EU VAT rules (VAT directive) it is impossible to reduce an item to zero rate. No matter what was agreed in principle at the EU Council by Cameron – that is the current EU law. The Commission underlined this in an answer a question to UKIP MEP Louise Bours “Introducing zero VAT rates for sanitary items would not be in line with the VAT Directive.” The only way round it would be to amend the VAT directive itself. It could be done in theory in two ways: 1. Include a specific reference in the directive allowing zero rate on sanitary items or 2. Create a mechanism to allow a change in the rate of products to zero rates. The Commission has said it will be reviewing the VAT directive sometime in 2016. It is reported the...
