Benefits for Bigamists?

Benefits for Bigamists?

Jan 25, 2016

Dear Editor, Is it any wonder people from all over the world beat a path to our shores when we are daft enough to hand over taxpayers money to wives in polygamous marriages? Under the new system of universal credit polygamous marriages are actually no longer recognised, whereas before additional wives were entitled to reduced income support. However a loophole has been discovered which means they will actually be better off as they will able to claim a full single person’s allowance while the husband and his first wife still receive their benefits.   It is suggested there are as many as 20,000 polygamous marriages in Britain and I would imagine that number will increase rather than decrease with a rising Muslim population. If a husband chooses – and it is a choice – to have more than one wife then it is up to him to support them and not hard working British taxpayers. Yours faithfully  Paul Nuttall MEP https://twitter.com/paulnuttallukip...

Oven glove madness from EU

Oven glove madness from EU

Jan 22, 2016

New laws from Brussels designed to stop us getting our fingers burnt are far too late – that happened when we joined the European Union, says UKIP MEP Louise Bours. Her comments come in the wake of approval yesterday in Strasbourg of the Personal Protection Equipment Directive, which means oven gloves marketed as “protective” will have to withstand heat of up to 200 degrees Celsius. Rubber washing-up gloves will also have to be tested to ensure they can withstand kitchen detergents and cleaning products. Ms Bours, MEP for the North West, said: “We have actually had more than our fingers burnt after being misled into joining the Common Market, we have watched our sovereignty going up in flames. “Here we have another unnecessary interference in our lives from bored bureaucrats whose role seems to be dreaming up more and more ways to meddle in our lives.  “An official impact assessment shows that these items will rise in price by up to 20 per cent and this at a time when businesses and householders are having to count every penny. “In their desire to protect people from perceived injury they may well actually increase the risk as householders could just decide to do without or use ‘decorative’ gloves which were excluded from the legislation.” Ms Bours added: “We need fewer nor more regulations and that can only be achieved by voting for Brexit. “We have a company here in the North West that makes oven gloves and even though they basically don’t export to the EU they will still have to abide by their rules and regulations. “In fact only 5% of British businesses trade with the EU yet they have their hands tied by Brussels diktat,” she said. ends   Follow Louise on...
