Fake Cigarette warning

Fake Cigarette warning

Aug 26, 2014

A report highlighting the dangers of counterfeit cigarettes has been welcomed by MEP Paul Nuttall, who campaigns against plain packaging for tobacco products. The Local Government Association (LGA) has warned that black market cigarettes create fire risks, damage businesses and cost £3bn a year in unpaid duty “I would never encourage anyone to smoke but those who choose to do so should not be at risk of unwittingly buying cigarettes filled with human excrement, dead flies, rat droppings, mould and asbestos,” said Mr Nuttall, UKIP deputy leader. “The LGA has also pointed out that fake cigarettes pose a fire risk because they are not designed to extinguish when not actively smoked. Often they have much higher levels of toxic ingredients such as cadmium, arsenic, tar, nicotine, carbon monoxide and lead, than genuine cigarettes. “People prefer to pay the lowest price they can for goods, including cigarettes and rolling tobacco, which is why the black market thrives. It is right that councils should do everything they can to tackle the illicit trade in fake cigarettes but their uphill task should not be made even more difficult by the government’s plain packaging plans,” “Introducing such uniform packaging will make it even easier for the counterfeiters and should not be given the go-ahead here. “Plain packaging does not work at deterring smokers as has recently been shown by sales figures in Australia which showed an increase,” said Mr Nuttall, Euro-MP for the North West....

EU vacuum ban ‘sucks’, says UKIP MEP

EU vacuum ban ‘sucks’, says UKIP MEP

Aug 21, 2014

Householders planning to buy a powerful vacuum cleaner have been advised by local MEP Louise Bours to act quickly before an EU ban comes into force. From September 1 companies will be prohibited from manufacturing or importing any vacuum cleaners with motors above 1,600 watts. “This is being done in the name of tackling climate change but the reality is it will do nothing to help and just make life harder for house-proud householders,” said Ms Bours, UKIP Euro-MP. “The reality is this EU legislation just sucks and is another reminder of why we need to leave the European Union. “The average vacuum cleaner currently on the market in this country has a 1,800W motor but the ever-interfering EU bureaucrats want to limit them to 1,600 from next month. And from 2017 they will be limited even further, down to 900W.  “The consumer group, Which? has pointed out that many of the models that its reviewers rate as the best on the market will fall foul of these rules.  “How dare the European Commission dictate which machines we can or can’t use. In every walk of life our choices are increasingly limited by these faceless bureaucrats. “As UKIP’s health spokesman I am also concerned that this reduction in motor power may affect the those suffering from lung conditions, such as asthma, which can be exacerbated by dust mite allergy. “UKIP’s policies include scrapping the 2008 Climate Change Act which is responsible for other ridiculous restrictions on our day to day life and has led to a rise in energy...

English Parliament Poll Welcomed

English Parliament Poll Welcomed

Aug 21, 2014

A major poll in support of the establishment of an English Parliament was welcomed today by UKIP MEP Paul Nuttall. “It showed that 54% of those surveyed believe it is time that England should have its own parliament, four times as many as disagreed with the idea. “This result comes on the heels of earlier opinion polls also showing that the English are in favour of the concept but I think that the debate over possible Scottish independence has brought it to the fore,” said Mr Nuttall, UKIP deputy leader. “I personally have been pushing for the establishment of an English Parliament and this latest survey, carried out the Edinburgh and Cardiff Universities, vindicates my views. “People are increasingly fed up with the Scots getting free prescriptions and university tuition fees and their MPs voting on laws that only apply to England. “There is a growing sense of unfairness and as it is likely that the Scottish government will get more powers, whatever the result of the referendum, that feeling is likely to increase. “61% of those surveyed think Scotland gets more than its fair share of public spending and 62% think it wrong that that Scottish MPs can vote on laws that apply only to England. “The poll revealed the majority want a new English Parliament dealing with English matters. It is plainly unfair that both Scottish and Welsh MPs can vote on English-only legislation but English MPs can have no say in Scotland and Wales.   “There clearly needs to a rebalancing of power – and sooner rather than later,” he added....

Flaws in Lib Dem claims Highlighted

Flaws in Lib Dem claims Highlighted

MEP Paul Nuttall has highlighted that flaws have been revealed in claims made by Lib Dem Ministers, Nick Clegg and Danny Alexander, over huge job losses if Britain left the EU. They have claimed that three million jobs would be at risk and Mr Alexander, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, said in June this year, that ‘the latest Treasury analysis shows that 3.3 million British jobs are connected to Britain’s place in Europe.’ But Mr Nuttall, UKIP deputy leader, said today, “However, Treasury officials have confirmed that the figure ‘is not an estimate of the impact of EU membership on employment’.” “And this is not new analysis at all.  Danny Alexander’s remarks are based on imprecise and simplistic methodology more than ten years old and cited countless times before, as research by Open Europe has revealed. “There is no doubt that UK would continue to export to the EU after withdrawal from it and the alleged three million jobs loss bandied around by Europhiles such as the Lib Dems is nothing more than inaccurate scaremongering. “We live in a global market, and no one believes that if we left the EU companies like Renault would stop selling their cars here and sack the dealership staff, yet that is what Clegg’s figures assume. Likewise, France’s population aren’t going to stop buying our goods and services. “Britain desperately needs to leave and regain its sovereignty and ensure a prosperous future freed from the EU rules and regulations hampering business and growth,” said  Mr Nuttall, North West Euro-MP. ends...
